Whether you’re trying to keep a group of kids entertained for a couple of hours, need something to watch when you’re cuddled up under a blanket with your partner, or just love looking forward to the holidays all year round, there’s a Netflix Christmas movie (or ten) for you. There are so many to choose from, with even more premiering this year, that we rounded up our 12 favorites to make your decision just a little bit easier.
A Christmas Prince
American journalist Amber (Rose McIver) travels to the fictional country of Aldovia to write about Prince Richard (Ben Lamb), who’s said to be abdicating the throne. But when the palace mistakes Amber for Richard’s younger sister’s tutor, she learns that the careless playboy reputation he has isn’t exactly accurate. And if you too don’t want to leave Aldovia, you can move right on to the sequels: A Christmas Prince: A Royal Wedding and A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby.
Klaus
An all-star voice cast including Rashida Jones, Jason Schwartzman, J.K. Simmons, and Joan Cusack bring life to this gorgeously animated Christmas tale. It’s a Santa origin story you’ve never heard but will want to share with your family every year.
The Holiday Calendar
Vampire Diaries actor Kat Graham stars as a photographer who’s gifted an advent calendar that turns out to be magical. Can it help her decide between a handsome new acquaintance and one of her oldest friends? We’re guessing so.
The Princess Switch
Another Netflix holiday movie about royals, another made-up European country. This one’s called Belgravia, which is where American baker Stacy (Vanessa Hudgens) travels to participate in a baking competition. But when an ill-contented duchess (also Hudgens) realizes that they’re dead ringers for each other, they trade places and get a taste of one another’s lives. There’s also a sequel coming this year: The Princess Switch: Switched Again.
Holiday in the Wild
After Kate’s (Kristin Davis) husband blindsides her with a divorce, she escapes to Zambia, where she helps a handsome stranger, Derek (Rob Lowe), save an orphaned elephant. Wanting to watch over the baby’s recovery, Kate ends up staying at an elephant sanctuary over the holidays, falling in love with animal conservation, Africa, and maybe Derek too.
Holiday Rush
Popular DJ Rush Williams (Romany Malco) finds himself suddenly without a job when his radio station is sold to a corporation that wants to overhaul it. Determined to find a new outlet for their work, he and his producer Roxy (Sonequa Martin-Green) buy a station of their own. But their new closeness causes a rift with Rush’s kids, who don’t want to see their late mother replaced.
Let It Snow
Sort of a Love Actually for Gen Z, Let It Snow follows a handful of interlocking storylines that all take place during the same blizzard. From a famous pop star falling for a small town girl to a secret romance that becomes official, there’s something here for everyone.
The Christmas Chronicles
Long-term real-life couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn play long-term North Pole couple Santa and Mrs. Klaus in this good old-fashioned, family-oriented holiday adventure. The plot follows a couple of kids who stowaway in St. Nick’s sleigh and then have to help him save Christmas when disaster strikes. The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two is landing this holiday season.
The Knight Before Christmas
Vanessa Hudgens makes her bid to be the queen of the holidays on Netflix with another rom-com. This one is about a modern woman who encounters (okay, she hits him with her car), a knight (Josh Whitehouse) who’s been sent to the future from the 14th century.
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey
John Legend is a producer on this whimsical holiday musical, one of the new Netflix Christmas movie offerings for 2020. With a cast including Forest Whitaker and Keegan-Michael Key, it tells the story of an inventor whose most magical toy is stolen, sending his granddaughter on a journey to recover it.
Christmas on the Square
Also new in 2020, Christmas on the Square is a must-watch for any fan of national treasure Dolly Parton. She not only stars in this flick about an angel who visits a businesswoman who’s intent on selling her own hometown off to a developer right before the holidays—she also wrote an entire soundtrack of brand new songs for it.
Holidate
Every single person knows how irritating it can be to navigate holiday parties and obligations alone—especially when you have a family that won’t stop asking when you’ll “settle down.” In this 2020 movie, Sloane (Emma Roberts) and Jackson (Luke Bracey) come up with the perfect plan to avoid awkward questions all season long: pretend to date. Naturally, their foolproof scheme is complicated when sparks begin to fly.
